FAQs for DeviceAway
Where is the Setup Button?
The setup button is located on the opposite side of the board where the white triangle is pointing. Its positioned next to the USB-C connector labeled "Wall." When pressed, you should feel a click, and the red LED light will turn on.
What Wall Adapters Are Compatible?
DeviceAway is compatible with all USB power adapters that can deliver 15W or higher. This includes all USB-C and USB-A adapters rated for fast charging or USB Power Delivery (USB-PD). An adapter may be required for the older USB-A style plugs.
Why Are There So Many DeviceAway Reset Emails?
This issue is likely caused by using a wall adapter that doesn’t provide enough power. If the power cuts off during charging, it triggers the reset. Ensure you are using a 15W or higher-rated adapter.
Wireless Charging does not Detect the Device Correctly
Make sure DeviceAway has “learned” the correct charge current of the wireless charger. Run setup again by pressing the setup button and connecting to the wifi and be sure to check “Detect Phone Removed Threshold now”. Also, make sure there is no phone on the wireless charger until the LED turns off. This will save the correct threshold to detect when a phone is placed on the wireless charger.
Why Does My Phone or Computer Give a Check Charge Connection Warning?
The older USB-A adapters may not provide higher voltages when the phone attempts to negotiate fast charging. This is fine because the point is to keep the phone out of the bedroom for a slow charge during sleep. You can safely ignore this warning as the device will still charge.
The Red LED Light Wont Turn On When Connecting Power.
Ensure the side labeled "Wall" is connected to a working USB wall adapter. Some adapters may only provide power when a phone or wireless charger is connected. If it still doesn't work, try a different adapter.
Where is the Firmware File in the Setup Update Button?
DeviceAway performs automatic internet updates. The update button in setup does not need to be used unless a manual update is requested.
Can DeviceAway Send Texts Instead of Emails?
Sending texts would incur a cost of around 5 cents per message and would require a monthly service plan instead of free emails. If you wish to use text notifications, contact support to explore setting up DeviceAway to send texts through your own account.
What is the Warranty?
The product comes with a 1-year warranty from the date of purchase for normal usage. This does not cover water damage or damage caused by pets (such as dog mauling).
Will DeviceAway Connect to 5GHz Networks?
No, DeviceAway only supports connections to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks due to hardware limitations.
